Pinyon Jay Laguna 10-19-11. These guys are rarely seen in San Diego County. But if you venture only 10 miles north into Riverside Co. they are quite common. They greatly prefer pinyon pines, of which we don't have many in San Diego County. These birds are overcoming their aversion to our common pines and are feeding quietly and then caching the nuts. If you blow up this pic you'll see that he birds crops are full. The pics of the individual birds were taken later as the birds returned to the foraging area.
